Ronald D. Buckley, 72

Ronald Dale Buckley, 72, formerly of Red Oak and Atlantic, died Oct. 10, 2009, in his home in Conway, S.C.

Ronald or “Ronnie,” as he was known by his friends and family, was born in Chicago, Ill., on April 4, 1937, to the late Theodore and Margaret Buckley of Red Oak. The family moved to Red Oak within a year of his birth and Ronnie graduated from Red Oak High School in the class of 1955. He is remembered as an outstanding track and field athlete during his high school career.

Immediately following high school, Ronnie enlisted in the United States Air Force where he faithfully served his country throughout the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of Sergeant. After twenty years of distinguished service with the United States Air Force, he received an Honorable Discharge owing to health problems incurred during his service. He lived in Atlantic, for several years before moving in 2006 to Conway, S.C., to be near his children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Donna Buckley, and his infant brother, Howard Buckley.

Ronald is survived by his three daughters; Donna Hardee of Conway, S.C.; Sherry Jones of Conway, S.C.; and Melissa Lopez of Orlando, Fla. He is also survived by his six grandchildren; his sister Karen (Roger) Bridges, of Bloomington, Ill.; his uncle, Herman Abraham.

A private family memorial service will be held on Nov. 28 at the Red Oak, Evergreen Cemetery.
