Red Oak loses 44-0 to Lewis-Central
COUNCIL BLUFFS — In 3A District 1 action, the Red Oak Tigers lost their sixth straight game Friday night when they fell to the Lewis Central Titans 44-0, in Council Bluffs.
The Titans scored all 44 of their points in the first half, scoring three touchdowns in each quarter.
Lewis Central scored the first touchdown with 11:05 left in the opening quarter when Alex Reed completed a 27-yard touchdown pass to Eric Toole, to give the Titans a 6-0 lead. Nate Connealy added two more touchdowns in the first quarter, including a 51-yard punt return, to put the Titans ahead 20-0.
After a safety, Matt Scheidle ran one in for one yard to put the Titans ahead 30-0, following the two-point conversion.
Chance Otto completed the next touchdown pass, which went to Nolan Gillespie for 14 yards. Reed scored the final touchdown with 22 seconds left in the half on a 15-yard run.
The Tigers had 135 yards of total offense and turned the ball over five times (including three fumbles). The Titans only had 177 yards of total offense, with 112 coming via the ground attack.
Seth Esias, Cole Meek and Nick Leinen combined for 30 carries for 98 of the 114 yards rushing the Tigers compiled. The three also combined for 25 tackles in the loss. Meek and Leinen each had a catch, with Meek’s for eight yards and Leinen’s for three.
Quarterback Dakota White completed three passes on eight attempts for 19 yards and also led the team in all-purpose yards with 94, with 60 of those yards coming on kickoff returns.
With the loss, the Tigers move to 1-7 overall for the season. In the season finale this Friday night, the Tigers will host the Atlantic Trojans as part of senior night. The Trojans are coming off a 55-27 loss to Carroll and have a three-game losing streak. Atlantic is currently 1-7 on the season.
