Stanton ranked No. 2 in preseason poll

DES MOINES— The Stanton Viqueens are ranked No. 2 in the preseason rankings of 1A girls basketball from the Iowa High School Girls Athletic Union (IGHSAU), released last Thursday.
Stanton is behind Martendale-St. Mary’s for the top spot in the preseason rankings, who was knocked out in the state semifinals by Mount Ayr, last season.
The Viqueens finished the 2009-10 season with a 22-1 record. Their lone loss came in the regional semifinals to Sidney.
North Mahaska is ranked third, Tripoli fourth and Ar-We-Va is fifth. The only other team in the conference to make it in the preseason poll is Sidney at eighth. Bedford and Lamoni are ranked ninth and 10th.
Exira, the defending state champions, is ranked 12th.
Stanton opened their 2010-11 season with a Jamboree at home. Their first game is Nov. 30 when they face Bedford.
