Griswold sends the pack to Des Moines

DES MOINES — The Griswold track teams will send athletes to state to compete in 11 events.

The boys’ will compete in four events and the girls’ in seven.

The number is four less than last season, when Griswold competed in a combined 15 events.

For the boys’ team, Chase Jahnke will compete in the 400-meter dash.

Jahnke ran a time of 52.01 seconds to qualify for the race.

The junior finished second at the District’s in Corning, behind Milo Blake of Bedford.

Jahnke’s time is 11th best in the field.

Fresh off his win at Corning, Jared Schoning will be in the 110-meter hurdles for Griswold.

Schoning ran a time of 15.78 seconds to get in to the race, 16th best in 1A.

The 4x100 and Distance Medley teams are the final two to reach Des Moines.

Despite finishing second at Corning, the 4x100 boys’ teams time of 45.90 seconds was enough to get them into the field.

The distance medley team ran a time of 3:46.28 to get the 14th seed at the meet.

For the girls’ team, several qualified multiple times individually.
Lauren Moore will be racing in the 400-meter dash and the 400-meter hurdles.

In the hurdles, Moore ran a time of 1:04.79 at District’s to qualify, which was also the best time in 1A.

In the 400-meter dash, Moore ran a time of 59.46 to qualify. The senior also won the district title in the race.

Joining Moore in those same events will be Rachel Northrup, who was second behind Moore at Districts.

Northrup ran a time of 1:00.83 to qualify in the 400-meter dash and 1:06.78 for the 400-meter hurdles.

Larissa Backhaus and Jordyn Sindt have both qualified for the 800-meter race.

Backhaus won the district title on Thursday with a time of 2:24.48, third best in the 1A field.

Sindt ran a time of 2:26.91 for a second place finish at districts.
Danielle Rosell qualified in the discus throw. She won the district title with a throw of 100’11”.

Griswold will have three relay teams competing at the state meet, including the distance medley team, which finished second behind Treynor at Districts on Thursday.

The Griswold girls’ distance medley team’s time of 4:21.58 is second best in the field.

The 4x400 team won the district title and have the best time in 1A, with 4:08.68.

The 4x800 team, which won the title at Districts, posted the third best time in their field, running a 10:09.42.

The state meet starts in Des Moines on Thursday.

The Griswold girls’ finished fourth at last year’s state meet.
