Viqueens come back and win at Villisca

VILLISCA — The Stanton Viqueens scored three runs in the seventh inning to defeat the Villisca Blue Jays, 12-10, in Villisca on Thursday.

The Viqueens were down 10-9 going into the top of the seventh inning when Kimber Wagg led off  with a double.

After Paige Peterson got on base with a single, Macy Elwood hit the go-ahead triple to score two runs and give Stanton the 11-10 lead.
Elwood in fact recorded four RBI, which was a season high for the freshman.

Elwood scored on a fielder’s choice to give the Viqueens the 12-10 lead.

Kadie Subbert provided a spark for the Viqueen offense by finishing 4-for-5 at the plate with two triples, a double, three runs scored and one RBI.

Carmen Subbert was 3-for-5 at the plate with two doubles, three runs scored and three RBI.

Stanton had multi-hit games from Shelby and Kimber Wagg, Peterson and Elwood.

Roey Sink had the win for the Viqueens, pitching a complete game, but giving up eight earned runs on 17 hits, while striking out seven batters.

The previous time Stanton and Villisca met, Sink pitched a two-hit shutout.

With their 7-3 record, the Viqueens maintain their second place spot in the Corner Conference behind Fremont-Mills, which is 13-5 for the season.

Stanton picked up another conference win last Tuesday, this time doing so against the Sidney Cowgirls.

Stanton won the game 11-0 in five innings.

Stanton scored early and often. Kadie Subbert and Kimber Wagg both had three-hit games for the Viqueens.

Subbert in fact drove in four runs, while Wagg scored two.

Sink had the complete game shutout win for the Viqueens, pitching all five innings and giving up only three hits.

Last Monday, the Viqueens lost to Corning, 18-8, at home.

Despite the loss, Carmen Subbert provided offense, finishing the game 4-for-4 at the plate with a triple, three runs scored and three RBI.

Kadie Subbert and Sink were the other Viqueen players to have multi-hit games.

The Viqueens travel to Malvern on Tuesday to play East Mills.  They're on the road again Friday to play Essex/South Page.
