Strong finishes for Red Oak boys cross country

CORNING — The Red Oak boys cross country team finished second at Corning’s Cross Country meet on Thursday.

There were five varsity boys finishing in the top 15, including Alex Jorgensen, who ran 19:07 to take eighth place. Chris Jorgensen finished 11th with a time of 19:24.

Brandon Bergren (19:34), Travis Fournier and Logan LeRette were 13th, 14th and 15th, respectively. The three runners were separated by six seconds.

Jake Smith finished in 27th with a time of 20:47 and Josh Sunburg was 28th with a time of 20:50. The team scored 61 points.

Shenandoah-Essex finished first with 27 points.

The varsity girls’ team finished eighth out of eight teams with 220 points. Ellen Fellers was the top finisher for the team, finishing 28th with a time of 19:23. Britt Plambeck was 43rd and Bevin Griffen took 45th.

Julie Laughlin was fourth on the team when she ran 24:13 to finish in 50th place. Stephanie Parris was 54th and Miranda Gowdy was 56th.

The junior varsity boys’ team also had a second place finish at the Corning meet. The team finished with a total of 64 points.

Shenandoah-Essex won the meet with a score of 22 points. All of the junior varsity boys finished in the top 35.

Tyler Ranner was the top Red Oak finisher, as he took second place with a time of 20:32. Jared Sherman was second on the team and 10th overall with a time of 22:03.

Marcus Blay finished 23rd, while Gage Palmer took 26th. Colton R was 30th, Tanner Allensworth took 32nd and Mike Manchester was 33rd.

The middle school boys team also had a couple of top finishers. Lyndon Bright finished sixth with a time of 13:00. Weston Rolenc was three seconds behind Bright, taking seventh place. Sean Griffen finished 10th with a time of 13:25.

Last Monday, all the Red Oak cross country teams competed at the Red Oak Cross Country meet. The boys’ varsity team finished fourth with a total of 126 points.

Alex Jorgensen was the top Red Oak finisher as he placed fifth with a time of 18:27. Jorgensen edged out Ean Patrick of Riverside at the finish line, to claim the spot.

Chris Jorgensen finished 15th with a time of 19:34, finishing five seconds ahead of Atlantic’s Tian Siggins. Logan LeRette was the next Red Oak finisher as he placed 22nd with a time of 20:14. Jake Smith was 36th with a time of 21:28 and Josh Sunberg was 50th with a time of 22:47.

Tyler Ranner was the final team finisher for Red Oak as he placed 57th.

The girls varsity team also had competitors at the Red Oak meet. Ellen Griffen was the top varsity finisher, placing 47th with a time of 21:59. Plambeck was 53rd with a time of 22:39, while Julie Laughlin was 61st with a time of 27:19.

The junior varsity’ boys team finished fourth out of four teams competing. Caleb Orme was the top finisher, placing 23rd with a time of 24:14. Jared Sherman and Gage Palmer were 27th and 28th, separated by seven seconds.

Marcus Blay and Hayden Berry were 36th and 37th in the race. Tanner Allensworth finished 47th, while Chris Allison was 49th and Michael Manchester 51st.
