Viqueens roll at Bedford tournament

BEDFORD — The Stanton Viqueens won all four matches at the Bedford  Tournament Saturday.

Stanton picked up wins over East Union (2-1), Bedford (2-0), Villisca (2-0) and North Butler (2-1).

The Viqueens defeated Corning in volleyball action last Monday night, 3-2.

Corning took the first game from Stanton, 26-24.

Stanton jumped ahead 2-1 after winning 25-17 and 25-13.

Corning tied the match though when they won the fourth game 25-19.
The Viqueens took control in the fifth game, winning 15-4.

Carmen Subbert led the way for the Viqueens with a season-high 15 kills out of 31 attempts with 12 digs.

Rachel Sorensen also had a season-high for kills when she finished with 14, with 11 digs.

Kara Allen ended the night with six kills on 18 attack attempts with four blocks (two solo).

The Viqueens in fact had 16 total blocks for the match, with only three of them being solo blocks.

Sorensen had the other solo block for Stanton.

Roey Sink (22) and Ragen Anderson (17) combined for 39 of Stanton’s 40 kills against Corning.

Anderson was also responsible for four of the Viqueens nine serving aces in the match.

Stanton had in fact snapped Corning’s four-match winning streak.
For Corning, Adalina Morales led the way with 15 kills, 10 digs, three blocks and three serving aces.

Marie Palmer had eight kills out of 25 attempts with four blocks (three solo).

Kelsey Roberts was responsible for six of Corning's 12 serving aces.
Roberts also had four kills and 12 assists. Hanna Mullen led the Red Raiders with 13 assists.

The Viqueens will get the opportunity to play their first match in their home gym this week.

Stanton High School's gym had been undergoing repairs to the roof when a storm Aug. 18 did further damage.

The roof has since been fixed and the gym is ready to go.
Tuesday night, Stanton will take on the Nishnabotna Warriors.

Both teams faced each other Aug. 30, with Stanton winning 3-0.
Thursday night, the Essex Trojannettes roll into Stanton.
This will be both team's first meeting this season.

Last season, Stanton defeated Essex 3-0, in their only meeting.
