Griswold gets fourth place at Corning meet

CORNING—The Griswold Tigers girls track team finished fourth at the Corning track and field meet Thursday.

The Tigers finished with a team score of 74 points. Larissa Backhaus had the key highlight with a win in the 800-meter run. Backhaus ran a time of 2:32.27, edging out runner-up Steph Shuler of Corning.

Backhaus also had a fourth place finish in the 100-meter dash and third in the 400-meter dash.

Griswold’s other win came in the 4x400, when the team of Backhaus, Justine Freund, Jordyn Sindt and Trisha Huerta ran a time of 4:26.86.

In the 1,500 meter race, Alyx Flippen took third with a time of 5:28.80. Allison Young was fifth in the same race. Flippen was second in the 3,000-meter race, running a time of 11:44.13.

Huerta also had a top five finish as she finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles. Danielle Rosell took fourth in the discus throw with a throw of 92’9”.

Griswold was without their top long distance runner, Rebekah Topham, who went to the University of Kansas over the weekend to compete in the Kansas Relays.

Griswold will be sending Topham to the Drake Relays, which will take place later this week.
