Accident Reports

On Aug. 19, at 2:30 p.m., the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office investigated an accident occurring in Stanton. Upon arrival and investigation the following was determined:
A 2006 Ford Fusion owned by Jolene Louise Johnson of Stanton was legally parked in the 400 block of Prairie Ave. A 2002 Dodge Ram  1500 pickup owned and operated by Brent Bell of Stanton was backing from a yard on Prairie when he collided with the left front corner of Johnson's car, which sustained $1,500 in damage to the left front corner. Bells truck had an estimated $50 in damage to the rear bumper.

On Aug. 28, at 5:02 a.m., the Montgomery County Communications Center re-ceived report of an accident occurring on N Ave., north of 230th St. A blue 2012 Mazda 2 owned by Brandy Blair, of Stanton, and being operated by William Lalone, of Stanton, was headed north on N Ave. Lalone stated he encountered about 15 head of black cattle in the roadway. While attempting to avoid the cattle, one came from the east side and stepped in front of the car. Lalone was unable to avoid striking the animal and made contact with what he believed to be the left front shoulder of the cow with the right front of the Mazda causing about $3,500 in damage to the right front of the car and possibly injuring the cow. The cattle fled to the northeast and were believed to have entered a nearby cornfield. Numerous cattle tracks and fecal matter was on the roadway, confirming the animals were out. The owner of the cattle, Richard Kennon, arrived at the scene and subsequently checked the nearby field but was unable to determine how many cattle had strayed due to the fog and dark conditions. No citations were issued.

On Aug. 28, at 3:17 p.m., the Montgomery County Communications Center received report of an accident about one half mile north of 140th St., on M Ave. A 1998 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 pickup owned by Steven Bergren, Red Oak, and operated by 93-year-old James Wendell Henry, of Carson, was pulling a hay trailer with four bales of hay south on M Ave. The hay trailer began to whip back and forth as the pickup descended down the hill, causing the rear end of the pickup to begin sliding and essentially jack-knifing the truck and hay trailer. The weight of the hay bales then pushed the truck and trailer into the west ditch and the truck rolled onto its right side where it came to a rest.
Henry was not injured. The truck sustained an estimated $7,500 in damage, but the trailer was not damaged. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by Elliott Fire and Rescue and Elliott First Responders.
