Griswold volleyball picks up two wins at Clarinda tournament
CLARINDA — The Griswold Tigers volleyball team won its first two matches of the season at the Clarinda Tournament Saturday.
The Tigers won their matches against Bedford (2-0) and East Mills (2-1).
Against Bedford, Candice Howell led the way with seven kills out of 14 attack attempts. Kinzey Nicklaus had four kills and Melodie Anstey had three.
Marlia Rossell led the team in assists with eight and digs with six.
In the East Mills match, Nicklaus and Anstey each had eight to lead the Tigers.
Rossell had 13 assists and 10 digs to lead the team.
Griswold lost their other tournament matches to Treynor, Clarinda, St. Albert and Shenandoah.
The Tigers opened the season last Thursday with a 3-0 loss in Tabor to the Fremont-Mills Knights.
Nicklaus had nine kills to lead Griswold. Morgan Godwin had 11 digs and Rossell had 10 assists.
Griswold starts their week Thursday night with a home match against Missouri Valley.
Then on Saturday, they will host their annual volleyball tournament, which includes Red Oak.
