Friday Football: Class A Week 3 Preview

Here is a preview of all the Class A District 8 games taking place Friday night around the area.

Underwood at Griswold- 7 p.m.

Griswold got back on track last week with their win over Nodaway Valley. They take on an Underwood team that split its first two games this season.

Last week, Underwood lost to Tri-Center, 42-28.

Last season, Underwood won a close game over the Tigers, 9-7. Griswold is 7-8 lifetime versus Underwood.

The Tigers rushing attack will be a key for them against Underwood. Kenneth Clary is second in the district in rushing yards with 341. Last season against Underwood, Clary rushed for 112 yards and one touchdown.

One player to watch for Underwood will be Cade Bracker, who plays on the defense. Bracker is second in the district in tackles with 29.

East Mills at Riverside

The Wolverines have played strong football in its first two games this season. They've outscored Shenandoah and Clarinda Academy by a combined score of 89-7.

East Mills plays a Riverside team that is coming off a week 2 loss to the Shenandoah Mustangs.

In last year's meeting, East Mills defeated Riverside 15-0.

Colby Jennings, the district's leading rusher, will be a player to watch. Jennings, a senior for East Mills, has 396 yards and three touchdowns thus far in 2013.

Conner Rankin is a player to watch for Riverside. Rankin leads the team in tackles with 24.

A-H-S-T at Westwood

A-H-S-T won last year's meeting over Westwood 27-6. They enter district play Friday night having won their first two games.

As for Westwood, they also enter district play with a 2-0 record, having defeated Woodbury Central and MVAO.

By the end of the night, one of these two teams will have their first loss.

Kyle Baumerkamp of A-H-S-T will be the player to watch. He is third in the district in rushing yards with 263.

West Monona at Logan-Magnolia

Both teams enter Friday splitting their first two games. Logan-Magnolia lost last week to IKM-Manning, while West Monona defeated Missouri Valley.

West Monona quarterback Austin Reitz leads the district in passing yards (394) and touchdowns (six).

Logan-Magnolia won last year's meetign 60-0.
