Don’t forget about farm safety

National Farm Safety and Health Week is Sept. 15-21. 

This is a good time to remind everyone of the hazards and risks associated with farming. Whether it is working with farm equipment, livestock or riding an ATV, just to name a few examples, farming is one of the most hazardous occupations in the United States and many people are killed or injured each year while carrying out various activities associated with agriculture. 

As harvest approaches, everyone in the community needs to be reminded of the different hazards they may encounter. 

Be aware as you travel on the roadways that you may encounter large slow-moving machinery. Truck traffic will increase on the roads and in communities where there are grain storage facilities. 

As farmers, be safe in your activities, and make sure the equipment that you are moving on the roads has adequate warning lights and that they are working.  If everyone works together, we will have a safe harvest and avoid any deaths or injuries.
