Sports Calendar: September 17
The volleyball season continues Tuesday night with several matches around the area.
For the Red Oak Tigers, they're fresh off a big weekend at the Griswold Tournament as they take on the Lewis Central Titans. The action kicks off at 7 p.m. at the Red Oak High School gym.
Red Oak won the tournament title at Griswold Saturday and have gotten off to a great start thus far. They play a Lewis Central team that hasn't played in about a week. Their last match was a 3-1 win last Tuesday over St. Albert.
The player to keep an eye on from Lewis Central will be Abby Bergsten. The junior leads the Titans in kills with 50.
Elsewhere, the Stanton Viqueens are back in action Tuesday as they travel to Essex to play the Trojanettes.
The Viqueens are coming off of a third place finish at the Shenandoah Tournament Saturday. Their last non-tournament match was last Tuesday when they defeated Fremont-Mills 3-1.
Essex had a rough time at the Shenandoah Tournament Saturday as they finished eighth.
The match is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. at the Allen Stuart Gymnasium at Essex High School.
Southwest Valley will be back on the road Tuesday evening when they face Lenox. The Timberwolves are fresh off a sixth place finish at the Shenandoah Tournament. They play a Lenox team that finished ninth at the same tournament on Saturday.
East Mills will be home Tuesday as they host Heartland Christian. The Wolverines are coming off a loss last Thursday to Fremont-Mills. The match is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
Finally, Griswold will be in Neola Tuesday as they face Tri-Center. Griswold is coming off of its home tournament, which they won one match. They'll face a Tri-Center team coming off some struggles from the Atlantic Tournament on Saturday. The match starts at 7:30 p.m.
