Della Johnson, 68

Della Johnson, 68, Stanton, died Oct. 22, 2013, at her residence in Stanton with her family lovingly caring for her.

Della May (Wood) Johnson was born May 22, 1945, in Iowa City, to H.C. Wood and Eva Marie (Jennings) Wood. When Della was young, her parents operated the Wood Café in Blockton. When she was entering high school, Della and her mother moved to Clarinda where she was a graduate in the class of 1963.

Della met Earl at the Clarinda Drive-In. They were married Dec. 10, 1965, at the Clarinda Methodist Church by Rev. Bebout.

Earl and Della lived and worked on a farm for 10 years and then moved to Stanton. Della worked for the Stanton Viking and Villisca Review as a reporter. She later took a librarian position in Stanton where she worked more than 20 years until her retirement.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Lee Don Wood; brothers-in-law, Calvin Johnson and his wives, Judith and Nancy, Dale Gray and Donovan Stamm.

Surviving Della are her husband of 47 years, Earl; children, Cletis Dean Johnson and wife Sally of Red Oak, Charmla Kay Carpenter and husband Scott of Stanton and Wesley Albert Johnson and wife Julie of Omaha; seven grandchildren, Tristin and Tanner Johnson, both of Red Oak, Mykel Thoren of Atlantic, Bryton Thoren and Preston Carpenter, both of Stanton, Alexis and Rylee Johnson of Omaha; a sister, Wanda Irene Woods and husband Charles Shetterly of Red Oak; sisters-in-law, Doris Stamm and Inez Gray both of Clarinda; a brother-in-law, Gail Lee Johnson and wife Laura of Gravity; many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Graveside services were Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Gus Cemetery with Kurt Johnson officiating. Memorials are suggested to Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Montgomery County Relay for Life, Montgomery Heartland Hospice or Gus United Methodist Church.
