Fred Heuer, 89

Frederick Arthur Heuer, 89, Red Oak, died Monday, May 19, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Society.

Fred, the son of Arthur and Veva (Stowell) Heuer, was born May 30, 1925, in Taylor County. He was raised in the Guss area and graduated from Villisca High School in 1943.

Fred married Geraldine Loghry Nov. 5, 1944, in Clarinda. They lived in Guss, Corning and Villisca before moving to Red Oak in 1960. In Red Oak, he had a candy route, a hobby store and sold insurance.  

In 1976, they retired and moved to Estes Park, Colo where Fred had a cabin patrol service. In 1983, they moved to the Phoenix area where he operated a pest control business.

In 2005, Fred and Gerry moved back to Red Oak where they became re-acquainted with family and old friends. He spent many hours planting flowers and was known for his “Dinner Plate” dahlias. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.  

Preceding him in death were his parents and his wife, Gerry.

Survivors include his daughter, Diane Gregg and spouse Mark of Red Oak; grandchildren, Shellie Ruge and spouse Randi of Phoenix, Shad Sellers of Phoenix, David Gregg and spouse Stephanie of Berthoud, Colo., and Mark Gregg and spouse Bobbi of Banks, Ore.; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Francis Heuer and spouse Donna of Farragut; many other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life service will be 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2014, at the First United Methodist Church. A reception will precede the service starting at 1:30 p.m. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
