Griswold takes runner-up at home softball tournament

 GRISWOLD — The Griswold softball team fell short 11-0 to Exira-EHK in the final game of their softball tournament Saturday at Griswold High School.

Exira-EHK, the ninth ranked team in Class 1A, scored three runs in the fourth and one more in the fifth to ensure the victory via the 10-run rule.

Jackie and Payton Rush had the lone hits for Griswold in the game.

The Tigers picked up a win earlier against Fremont-Mills 9-7.

Brooke Hansen got the win for Griswold as she gave up seven runs on five hits and striking out nine.

Jackie Rush scored three runs, while Marlia Rossell scored a run and had two doubles.

Hansen, Hannah Misner, Morgan Godwin, Payton Rush and Mandi Backhaus picked up the hits for Griswold.

Griswold will be competing in the Western Iowa Conference tournament, which starts Tuesday.

Friday night, Griswold will be home as they host Sidney for a JV/varsity doubleheader. The JV game starts first at 6 p.m.

They wrap up the week Saturday with a softball tournament at Bedford.
