Parent appreciates Orear’s ‘be a man” advice

 Mr. Gregory Orear,

My name is Sherry Powers and I am married to Drue Powers and we have two boys that are 22 and 19 and after reading your article on “Being A Man” made me feel so good as a mother and knowing my husband has given our boys some good sound advice.

I remember the first time when my oldest was the age of 15 or 16 and we were having a discussion with him and my husband said to him “Its time you grow up and be a man.” At first I thought it was kind of harsh but knowing that my role was to support Drue in what he was saying to him and I had faith that was what he needed to hear at that time.

We recently moved my oldest into his own apartment in Council Bluffs last week and Drue was having a conversation with him and once again said the words “Ethan you are 22 years old and you need to start making decisions like a man. I just smiled and agreed!

Thank you for your great article. Even though our boys are not perfect and neither are we as parents, its nice to hear that we have passed along some good advice to our sons.

Sincerely,

Sherry Powers, Red Oak
