Red Oak sending boys’ team to state

 COUNCIL BLUFFS — The Red Oak bowling teams once again sent competitors to the state meet after finishing strong at the state qualifying meet last week.

Five of the six varsity boys’ bowlers for Red Oak placed in the top 11 as they dominated the five team field at the state qualifying meet at the Thunderbowl in Council Bluffs last Tuesday by recording a team score of 2,873.

Shane Majerus and Dylin Keat were champion and runner-up for the meet. Majerus bowled a 483 series to claim first, while Keat was a runner-up with 421.

Garrett Patterson took sixth with a 365 series, while John Childers was one pin back with 364.

Ryan Plambeck was tied for 11th with Jared Mahoney as they had a 349 series. Chase Rea recorded a 327 series.

Shaely Nowels was the girls’ qualifier for the Council Bluffs meet. She was the top finisher for the team and the meet, recording a 399 series. The runner-up in the meet was Jacee Hogue of Shenandoah, who had a 383. Jasmine Forward was fourth overall with a 341 series.

The Red Oak girls finished second at the meet with a score of 2,385. They entered Baker games trailing by less than 100 pins (1,722-1,634). Shenandoah however cruised through Bakers, bowling better than 150 in all five games.

Red Oak tried to close the gap late, but it wasn’t enough as Shenandoah finished with a score of 2,554.

Individually, Breann Berkey, Kendra Hardy and Alexa Gilleland were ninth, 10th and 11th, respectively. Berkey had a 304 series, while Hardy had a 298 and Gilleland a 292. Brenna Craig finished with a 287 series.
