Fort Madison man killed, two injured in one-car accident Sunday
A Fort Madison man died and two people were seriously injured in a rollover accident early Sunday morning on Highway 34 in Montgomery County.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, Brandon Perez, 23, died at the scene of the accident near the intersection of Highway 34 and Q Avenue, just east of Stanton.
Perez was driving a 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora west on Highway 34 at 2:09 a.m. when the vehicle dropped off the shoulder. Perez then over corrected the left, which caused the vehicle to cross the highway and enter the south ditch, where it rolled several times before coming to a rest on its top.
Perez, who was wearing a seat belt, was recovered from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers, Hilary Knox, 30, and an unnamed 3-year-old, both from Fort Madison, were ejected from the vehicle. Neither passenger was wearing a seat belt and were transported by LifeNet to the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Children’s Methodist, respectively, by LifeNet helicopter.
The Iowa Patrol report indicates alcohol was believed to have been a factor in the accident.
