Sports Calendar: June 25
There's a lot going on and hopefully the rain holds off again for the evening.
The Red Oak baseball and softball teams hit the road again for varsity doubleheaders against Denison-Schleswig. The doubleheaders are set for 5:30 p.m. starts in Denison.
Meanwhile, the Corner Conference races heat up as Stanton will be home for a softball/baseball varsity doubleheader against Fremont-Mills. It will be parent's night for both teams as the action starts at 6 p.m.
In softball, Stanton (4-3) needs a win over Fremont-Mills to stay alive in the Corner Conference. Their chances are slim, however, as they would need to win out their remaining schedule and hope that Essex (7-1) loses its last two conference games.
In baseball, the top two placers are set in stone in Fremont-Mills and Nishnabotna. Stanton has a chance to finish third, but would need wins over Fremont-Mills, Sidney and Nishnabotna to accomplish the task.
The other big Corner Conference doubleheader takes place in Essex when they host Sidney. The softball match-up will be the one to watch. Essex needs a win over Sidney to clinch at least a share of the conference title. A Fremont-Mills loss to Stanton in addition to a win over Sidney would clinch the conference title outright for Essex.
Should Essex and Fremont-Mills both win Thursday night, Essex will just need a win Friday night over East Mills to clinch the Corner Conference title outright.
The softball varsity game kicks off the doubleheader, which starts at 6 p.m. The baseball game is scheduled to follow.
East Mills will be home Thursday evening for a varsity doubleheader against Whitling. The softball team kicks off the doubleheader as they start at 5:30 p.m. in Malvern.
In Pride of Iowa action, Southwest Valley will be home to take on Lenox. The game was originally scheduled to be played in Villisca. However, it has been moved back to Corning. The action kicks off at 6 p.m.
