INCIDENTS

• On Feb. 8, at about 8 a.m., the Montgomery County Communications Center received a call about a stolen vehicle. Upon investigation, it was found someone entered the United Farmers Mercantile property at 203 W. Oak St. in the early morning hours and rummaged through several vehicles owned by UFMC. It is believed nothing was taken from the vehicles. The person then started a 1991 Kenworth T800 semi tender truck and drove it through a chain link fence surrounding the bulk propane tanks. Once inside the fence, the person stole  a 2002 white Dodge Dakota pick-up owned by Duane Hardee, Red Oak, with Iowa license plate ASL 402. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Red Oak Police at 623-6500 or Montgomery County Crime Stoppers at 1-888-434-2712.

ACCIDENTS

• On Feb. 2, at about 1:38 p.m., Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies investigated an accident on 190th Street near J Avenue. Austin Petersen, Red Oak, driving a 1999 Dodge Dakota, was traveling west on 190th Street when he encountered he encountered snow/slush mix on the road, lost traction and crossed the center line. The vehicle then entered the ditch and struck a utility pole. Damage to the vehicle was about $2,500, and there was no apparent damage to the utility pole. No citations were issued.
• On Feb. 6, at about 4:47 p.m., Red Oak Police officers investigated an accident at the corner of U.S. 34 and 4th Street. Bunnie Jared, 67, Red Oak, driving a 2001 Chevrolet Impala, was stopped at the stop sign on 4th Street facing north and left too soon, striking a 1998 GMC Envoy driven by Michelle Solt, 54, Red Oak, which was traveling west on U.S. 34. Damage to Jared’s vehicle was estimated at $2,500, while damage to Solt’s vehicle was also about $2,500. Jared was cited for speeding and fail to obey traffic control device.
• On Feb. 7, at about 12:18 p.m., Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a two-vehicle accident east of Red Oak on U.S. Highway 34 and K Ave. Murphy Porter, 17, Red Oak, driving a 2008 Chevy Suburban owned by Jackie Porter, Red Oak was stopped at the stop sign on K Avenue and started to proceed south, but failed to see an eastbound 2012 Dodge Caravan driven by John McDonald, 38, Stanton. The Porter vehicle struck McDonald’s vehicle, causing it to enter the ditch. Damage to Porter’s vehicle is estimated at $4,000, while damage to the McDonald vehicle is about $4,500. Porter was issued a citation for stop sign violation.
