Schools hosting Veterans Day programs Friday

Friday is Veterans Day, and a number of Veterans Day programs are being hosted at Red Oak, Stanton, Southwest Valley, Griswold, Essex and East Mills.
Red Oak
The Red Oak Community School District will host two Veterans Day programs on Friday, Nov. 11. The first program begins at 9 a.m. at the high school. A second program begins at 10:30 a.m. at the middle school. The guest speaker for the event is Marion native Col. Greg Hapgood. Hapgood enlisted in the Iowa Army National Guard in 1986 with Company A, 234th Signal Battalion in Cedar Rapids. Hapgood has commanded the 135th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment and Joint Forces Headquarters, the Iowa National Guard, and previosly deployed for Operation Joint Endeavor, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was selected as the Iowa National Guard Public Affairs Officer in November, 2003.
Southwest Valley is hosting a Veterans Day program at the Villisca School District at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11.
Stanton’s Veterans Day program begins at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 11, at the Stanton School.
A Veterans Day program is scheduled at the Essex Community School beginning at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11.
The Griswold Community School District holds its Veterans Day program at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11. Guest speaker is retired Army Major Francis Hahn of Mapleton, a Korean and Vietnam War veteran. During his military career, Hahn worked in many  positions, and was assigned to work with the CIA on three different occasions.
Hahn earned a degree in business administration and personnel management by attending night classes while in the Army. He retired from the military in 1976, and maintains an active music career, realeasing three county music CDs.
East Mills Community Schools host its Veterans Day program at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 11.
