INCIDENTS
• On Jan. 30, Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an incident of burglary and criminal mischief at the Rialto Theater in Villisca. It was determined that sometime in the last few months, multiple persons entered the theater through a side door, and a large amount of damage was done to the interior. Damage included but was not limited to broken bathroom fixtures, damage to props and equipment, and large-scale damage done with paint to carpet, walls, and seating. The cost of damage is currently unknown but is estimated to be in the several thousand dollar range. The public’s assistance is sought, and anyone with information can call the sheriff’s office at 712-623-5107 or Crimestoppers at 1-888-434-2712.
ACCIDENTS
• On Feb. 1, at 7:20 a.m., Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies investigated a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of U.S. 34 and M63/O Avenue. Jonah Kirsch, 18, Villisca, driving a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up, was traveling north on O Avenue and failed to stop at the stop sign. His vehicle proceeded into the intersection where it struck a 2014 Freightliner Sprinter van owned by Apria Healthcare and driven by Jason Bodwell, 48, Villisca, which was traveling west on U.S. 34. Damage to the pick-up was about $3,500, and damage to the van was estimated at $12,000. No injuries were reported. Kirsch was cited for failure to stop at a stop sign, driving while license suspended, and no insurance. He is being held on $1,080 bond. The sheriff’s office was assisted by Red Oak Fire Chief.
