Incidents
• On Jan. 26, at 10 p.m., Sheriff’s deputies investigated a report in the 200 block of Broad Ave. in Stanton, of minors at a school dance who appeared to be impaired by alcohol. Eight juveniles were cited into juvenile court for alcohol under age and two 18-year-olds were cited into adult court for alcohol under age. All were released to a parent.
ACCIDENTS
• On Jan. 23, at 11:02 p.m., Red Oak Police officers investigated a two-vehicle accident at 5th and Joy streets. Alexandria Strauss, 28, Elliott, driving a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe, was traveling south on 5th Street when, according to the report, she failed to maintain control of her vehicle and it struck a legally parked 2014 Chevrolet Cruze belonging to Kimberly Karkkainen. Damage to the Strauss vehicle was about $2,000, and damage to the Karkkainen vehicle was about $6,000. Strauss was cited for failure to maintain control.
• On Jan. 24, at 1:57 p.m., Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a two-vehicle accident east of E Avenue on Highway 34. A 2010 Toyota Highlander owned and operated by Mark Euken, 57, Red Oak, was in the south ditch and facing northeast. A 2002 Hyundai Sonata owned and operated by Leanna Jensen, 35, Shenandoah, was west of the Euken vehicle, also in the south ditch and facing northwest. According to the report, the Jensen vehicle was traveling west on Highway 34 and encountered a snow-cover portion of the highway, causing it to skid south across the road and strike the Euken vehicle, which was traveling east. Upon entering the ditch, the Euken vehicle rolled once and came to rest on its wheels. Occupants of the Jensen vehicle declined medical treatment. Both occupants of the Euken vehicle were extricated by mechanical means by members of Red Oak Fire and Rescue and were transported to Montgomery County Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Both vehicles were considered a total loss. The accident remains under investigation.
• On Jan. 26, at 9:03 a.m., Red Oak Police officers investigated a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of North Boundary and East Valley streets. Stephen Bruce, 51, Red Oak, driving a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix, was traveling north on Boundary Street. Jesse Nelson, 32, Red Oak, driving a 2007 Dodge Durango owned by Hayliemay Johnson of Red Oak, was traveling west on Valley Street. The Bruce vehicle failed to stop at the stop sign and was struck by the Nelson vehicle, which was unable to stop. Damage to the Bruce vehicle was about $3,500, and damage to theNelson vehicle was also about $3,500. Bruce was cited for fail to obey stop sign/yield right of way.
