Quick lead helps AHSTW past Stanton

AHSTW jumped out to a 3-0 lead and Rylinn Madden tossed a two-hit shutout in an 8-0 win over Stanton in nonconference baseball last Tuesday.
“We played solid defense tonight but just couldn’t hit the ball,” said Stanton coach Brandie McFarland.
Madden struck out four and surrendered just two to the Viqueens in the win.
Halle Goodman had three hits and drove in a run and Madden helped her own cause with two hits and two RBIs.
Victoria McFarland doubled and Piper French singled for the Viqueens’ hits.
Lucy Dreyer took the loss in the circle after allowing 12 hits and eight earned runs while fanning two.

Stanton 16,
Sidney 6
Stanton rallied from a 6-5 hole scoring seven runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to pull away for a 16-6 victory over Sidney in Corner Conference softball last Monday.
The Vikings recorded 14 hits in the win.
“The girls were having fun,” said Stanton coach Brandie McFarland. “They were working as a team. We hit pretty well tonight as well.”
Victoria McFarland and Cooper Stephens had three hits and drove in three runs each. Maven Allen, Quinn McDonald and Addy Gettler had two hits each.
Lucy Dreyer notched the win in the circle. The eighth grader allowed six hits and three earned runs with two strikeouts.

Knights ends Vikings’ season in postseason

Rowen Howe and Isaak Hughes combined to allow four hits on the mound for Fremont-Mills in the Class 1A, Substate 8 baseball opening round Friday at Lenox.
The Knights (12-8) led 3-0 after an inning and then saw that lead swell to 10-0 with a seven run second on their way to notching their third win in four tries against the Vikings (9-13).
Broden Zimmerman drove in two runs in each of the first two innings on his way to a 2-for-4 night. Evan Laumann added two hits and drove in two and Gavin Crom, Sam Sanchez and Hughes all had hits and drove in a run.
But it was Howe on the mound that was the Knights’ engine in the win. The senior  right-hander started and tossed four innings, allowing three hits and striking out five to earn the win. Hughes came on to pitch a scoreless fifth inning.
Nolan Case took the loss on the mound for Stanton. Case allowed eight hits and struck out five. Noah Marsh led the way at the plate with three hits.
Stanton closes its season with a record of 9-13.
With the win the Knights advanced to face Lenox (17-10) in Monday’s district semifinals.

Nodaway Valley 6,
Stanton 5
William Shilling had two hits at the plate and picked up the win on the mound in Nodaway Valley’s 6-5 win over Stanton last Wednesday in nonconference baseball.
Titan Foster added three hits and drove in two runs for the Wolverines.
Jayden Burke took the loss for Stanton and Cooper Dreyer went 2-for-3 at the plate while driving in two runs.

Stanton 20,
East Mills 6
Stanton collected 10 hits and took advantage of five East Mills fielding miscues to score a 20-6 win in Corner Conference baseball last Monday.
Those five Cowboys errors translated into 10 unearned runs for Stanton.
Khayden Poorker, Zach Boyd, Cooper Hagen and  Gannon Goy had one hit each for Sidney/East Mills.
