The public is invited on July 8 to attend a special presentation about the environmental risk factors associated with Iowa's high cancer rates.
Authors of the new report "Environmental Risk Factors and Iowa's Cancer Crisis" will present findings on pesticides, nitrate, PFAS, and radon, and their associations with cancer in Iowa.

While some risk factors for cancers are well known and studied, such as smoking, alcohol consumption, and ultraviolet radiation from the sun or tanning beds, environmental factors — what's in our water, soil, and air — are discussed far less. In the groundbreaking new report and the presentations on July 8, we'll share data and research about associations between pesticides, nitrate, PFAS, and radon, and cancer in Iowa, including specific types of cancer and age groups impacted. You'll also see data about both Cass and Montgomery Counties' unique cancer risk profiles and how they compare with the rest of the state and the U.S.
Report authors will be available to share key findings and answer your questions. These events are hosted by the Iowa Environmental Council, the Iowa Farmers Union, and the Nishnabotna Water Defenders.
