Tigers close regular season with loss to Clarinda

The Red Oak girls tennis team wrapped up its regular-season with a 9-0 loss to Clarinda in nonconference tennis last Tuesday.
While Clarinda earned the shutout team victory over Red Oak, several matches showed the continued fight and determination the Tigers have developed throughout the season, said head coach Luis MacDonald.
“Even though the final team score favored Clarinda, there were still positives to take from the meet, particularly the girls’ willingness to keep competing, work through difficult stretches, and not allow the scoreboard to determine their effort,” MacDonald said.
The biggest highlight for the Tigers came at No. 2 doubles where Ana Torres and Emma Wingert battled through a long, extremely even match.  Neither team was able to create much separation, and the match eventually went to a tiebreaker before Clarinda pulled out a 9-8 with a 7–3 in the extra-frame.

In singles, Red Oak’s BreeAnna Cech and Emma Wingert each put together competitive matches, both taking three games from their opponents.
Anna Butz and Ana Torres faced very strong players at the top of Clarinda’s lineup, while Caitlin Britten and Bella Kling also continued fighting regardless of the score.
“One thing I continue to appreciate about this group is that they don’t quit when a match becomes difficult,” MacDonald said.

Red Oak 8,
Winterset 1
The Red Oak High School girl’s tennis team earned an 8–1 victory over Winterset on Monday at the Montgomery County YMCA.
This was Red Oak’s first time hosting Winterset and, with the excessive heat, the schools agreed to move the girls’ meet indoors. The indoor arrangement allowed spectators to watch the action more closely and created an energetic atmosphere for the players, said Red Oak coach Luis MacDonald.
Red Oak won five of the six singles matches and all three doubles matches on its way to the win.
Ana Torres and Anna Butz each recorded convincing 8–1 victories. Caitlin Britten and Emma Wingert both earned 8–0 wins, while Bella Kling won her match 8–1.
In the doubles matches, Butz and Britten won 8–4, Torres and Wingert posted an 8–2 victory, and Kling and Cech completed the sweep with an 8–1 win.
The singles and doubles victories continued the Tigers’ strong recent play as they approach the postseason.
