Nov. 2 election to feature several races

RED OAK — National, state, and local races will be featured on next week’s ballot for the Nov. 2 general election.
Montgomery County features three local races, with challengers trying to unseat incumbents in the County Attorney, Board of Supervisor, and Recorder office.
After losing in the August Republican Primary, Alan Kirshen is running as an independent against Bruce Swanson for County Attorney. Dave McFarland and Connie Magneson are both running as nominated by petition against Karen Blue and Carleen Bruning for Supervisor and Recorder, respectively.
On the state level, Democrat Chet Culver is seeking re-election against Republican and former four-term governor Terry Branstad. Other candidates included Jonathan Narcissse (Iowa party), Eric Cooper (Libertarian), David Rosenfeld (Socialst Workers Party) and Gregory James Hughes (nominated by petition).
In the race for Secretary of State, Democrat Michael Mauro is seeking re-election while Republican Matt Schultz and Libertarian Jake Porter seek to unseat him.
Other state offices up for election include auditor, treasurer, secretary of agriculture and attorney general.
On the federal level, Iowans will be choosing between incumbent Chuck Grassley (Republican) and challengers Roxanne Conlin (Democrat) and John Heiderscheit (Libertarian) in the race for U.S. Senate.
Also in District 5, Democrat Matt Campbell is running against incumbent Steve King for a two-year term in the U.S. Congress.
As this is a federal election, polls are open from 7 a.m.-9 p.m.
