Gary Jacobson, 78

Gary “Jake” Jacobson, the son of Arthur “Art” Carl Edward Jacobson and Esther Marcella Hill Jacobson passed away Thursday March 14, 2024, at the Griswold Care Center in Griswold after fighting a long, hard battle with Parkinson’s and heart disease. Jake was 78 years, 10 months and 13 days old. He is finally resting in peace.
Jake attended school at Stanton graduating with the Class of 1963, and according to him, it was the best class to be in. After high school he attended Clarinda Community College. He had numerous jobs, such as bridge crew, railroad crew, Budweiser delivery man, Presto X, and Derby station manager. Jake served two years in the U.S. Army as a Military Policeman at Seneca Army Depot in Romulus, N.Y. He was extremely proud of his military service. Jake was a member of the Legion Post #406 at Stanton before moving to Griswold Post #508.
Jake met Rosemary Brill from Geneva, N.Y., while serving his country, and they married on Dec. 7, 1968. To this union three children were born. After returning to Iowa, and after a couple of his smaller jobs, Jake went to work for UPS. He pulled doubles for a while before he became the best Package Car Driver ever!! He loved his job, and his customers loved him. To quote one of his customers, “When you said ‘Jake’, everyone in the area knew you were talking about the UPS man.”
Jake’s hobbies were few, but what he had, occupied his time. Of importance to him was finally getting his Black ’57 Chevy 210 completely gone through. Before getting sick, he enjoyed camping and fishing, riding horses, watching NASCAR races during the #3 Dale Earnhardt era, AND television. Crime shows, outdoor shows and FOX News. He loved dancing, listening to many different genres of music, drinking coffee with his friends, but mostly just loved being around his grandchildren.
He married Madonna Milne of Griswold on April 25, 1999. This would have been their 25th anniversary year. To this union, he gained two stepchildren.
Jake was preceded in death by his parents; and grandson, Connor Carl Jacobson.
Jake is survived by his wife, Madonna; son, Todd Michael (Paula) of Creston; daughters, Kristen Lee (Tony) Thoms of Omaha and Missy Jo Jacobson (Kevin) of Griswold; stepson, Creighton (Sarah) Nelson; stepdaughter, Eve Kwiatkowski, of Griswold; 12 grandchildren, Evan and Isaac Jacobson; Tristan, Jace, Taya, and Kyan Thoms; McKenna and Teegan Wiechman, Kingston Farr; and Britney and Alex Nelson.
