Larry Ronald “Ron” Curtis, 88, Red Oak, passed away Saturday, Feb.1, 2025, at the Red Oak Rehab and Care Center.
Ron was born July 23, 1936, in Mills County, the son of Virgil Wayne and Mary Elaine (Churchman) Curtis. He graduated from Strahan High School in 1954 and attended Peru State College and Iowa State University where he played baseball.
He was united in marriage to Patricia Swett on March 2, 1957, at the Strahan United Methodist Church. They lived in many different places in their early marriage while Ron worked for Natural GAS Pipeline. Ron and Pat moved back to Strahan, in 1973, where Ron started farming and raising livestock.
Over the years, Ron was involved with Iowa Beef Industry Council and served as Chairman of the Beef Industry Council of the National Livestock and Meat Board. He and Pat were longtime members of the First United Methodist Church, where Ron taught Sunday School, served on the PPR Board, sang in the choir, attended Bible study, and attended Walk to Emmaus.
Ron enjoyed golfing as a member of the Red Oak Country Club, square dancing, playing bridge, playing baseball, and wintering in Florida. He was very sociable and enjoyed a good party at every opportunity. He always liked to tell a good story and had a wonderful sense of humor. Ron was very proud of the fact that he traveled to all 50 states and through the years acquired his personal pilot’s license. He was also an avid Iowa State Cyclones fan.
