Velma Wheeler, 102

Velma Mae Wheeler, 102, passed away Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026, at Arlington Place in Red Oak.
Velma was born Jan. 23, 1923, the daughter of Elmer and Elsie Cook. Velma was united in marriage to Robert M. “Bob” Wheeler on Nov. 17, 1950. Through the years, Velma lived in Atlantic before she and Bob moved to the farm near Villisca. Eventually, they moved to Villisca and for the past seven years Velma made her home at Arlington Place in Red Oak. Velma was a longtime member of the Villisca United Methodist Church and the Neighborhood Club. She and Bob enjoyed driving through the countryside checking their cattle and crops, golfing, and playing cards, and Velma enjoyed crafting with the club ladies.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Robert M. Wheeler; son, Larry Wheeler; daughter-in-law, Aneita Wheeler; and great-grandson, Robert Jeffrey Miller.
Survivors include her son, Dale Wheeler and wife Sharon; grandchildren, Robb Wheeler (Maggie); Shannon Post (Kevin); Brenda Barber (Greg); Dustin Wheeler (Shelley); Robin Chapman (Carter); Todd Tidgren (Kristine); and Taylor Tidgren (Carla); 28 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; sister, Marilyn Weber (Don); and many other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026, at LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Arlington Cemetery in rural Montgomery County. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Villisca United Methodist Church or the Villisca Country Club.
