Open house for guitar lessons

The Performing Arts and Education Association of Southwest Iowa (PAEA) is offering guitar classes, starting again in June. Registration and open house is on May 14 and will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Wilson Performing Arts Center, 300 Commerce Drive in Red Oak. Reiman Music will be available with instruments, accessories, and a rent-to-own acoustic guitar program.

Weekly guitar lessons are taught by Guy Somers on Thursdays at the Wilson Center, beginning June 4. Lessons are open to students eight years old through adult. One hour group classes will be offered in acoustic and electric guitar for $50 per month from 5 to 9 p.m. Half-hour private lessons are offered in acoustic, rock, blues, jazz, classical, and bass guitar at $70 per month from 1 to 5 p.m.

Advance class registration is required. Limited funds are available for tuition assistance for qualifying students. If you are unable to attend the registration and open house, information and forms are available from the PAEA office or on the website at www.wilsonartscenter.org.

Guy Somers is a multi-style guitarist, composer, instructor, contemporary worship leader, and technical editor of “Guitar Exercises for Dummies” from the number one-selling guitar instruction book series in the U.S. He has played 30 years, taught 20 years and performed most weekends for over 15 years. Guy studied guitar at the Cincinnati Conservatory, Southern Missouri State, Central Bible College and with world-class guitarist, composer & producer, Billy McLaughlin. In 2007, he played a night with Will McFarlane, formerly with superstar Bonnie Raitt. Guy also has a B.A. in Theological Studies with a minor in counseling. He started out as an award winning artist in high school but it was his passion for guitar that won out.
