Phyllis E. Taylor, 87

Phyllis E. Taylor, 87, Atlantic, died Friday, May 24, 2013 at the Heritage House.

Phyllis Esther Taylor, daughter of Dallas and Lillie (Schuler) Porter was born Oct. 30, 1925, at Grant. Phyllis was raised in Grant and graduated from Grant High School.

She married Vernon R. Taylor Dec. 19, 1943, in Des Moines. Phyllis and Vernon lived in Grant and operated a gas station for several years. In 1951, they moved to Gardena, Calif.

While in Gardena, Phyllis worked for Russell Barr’s Furniture Store. Following retirement, Phyllis and Vernon made Apple Valley, Calif. their home for 10 years. In l989, Phyllis and Vernon moved to Elliott and later to Red Oak. In 1999, they moved to Brookridge Apartments in Atlantic.

Phyllis had been supportive of the Grant United Methodist Church especially with their sewing, crocheting and embroidering projects. She enjoyed spending time and visiting with her friends and family who were the most important part of her life.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; stepfather, Owen Mullen; and sisters, Bernadine Fisher, Dorothy Barr and Vivian Ellis.

Phyllis is survived by her son, Leslie Taylor and wife Julie of Stafford, Va.; a granddaughter, Kim Taylor of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Kathleen Kelley and husband Richard of Elliott; two brothers, Dennis Porter and wife June of California and Reed Porter and wife Jackie of Gravois Mills, Mo.; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn.

As Phyllis wished to be cremated, memorial graveside services were Tuesday, May 28 at Grant Cemetery with Rev. Marion Sindt officiating. A memorial is being established in Phyllis’s name.
