Pony Express Riders pass through county during fundraiser for Camp Sunnyside

On Friday the Pony Express Riders came through Red Oak, after starting their 2009 fundraising ride for Camp Sunnyside in Glenwood. The Red Oak Ambassadors had lunch ready for the Pony Express at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. From Red Oak, the Pony Express were on the way to Creston. On Saturday they will be in Des Moines for the governor’s ride.

The Pony Express, which was started in 1968, has collected over $8 million in donations for Camp Sunnyside.

The Pony Express will be at the county fair this year, offering pony rides.

“We want to thank the Red Oak ambassadors, the people of Red Oak, Emerson and Villisca, the Iowa Highway Patrol for the escort and Dennis Reynolds (Highway 34 chairman), who made this all possible.” said spokesperson Terry Yokum.
