Rae Bergstrom, 89

Rae Bergstrom, 89, Red Oak, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital.  

Rae was born Oct. 19, 1924 in Centerville, the daughter of James and Grace (Fry) Bauman. She graduated from Centerville High School and received her teaching certificate from UNI Teachers College. She taught for three years in Ft. Madison and married Melvin Bergstrom Jan. 2, 1947, in Glenwood.

Rae was a homemaker, helped on the farm and raised her family. She was a very active member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Stanton for many years. Rae enjoyed raising flowers, tending to her gardens, making crafts and attending craft shows. She was also a former member of the Farm Bureau Women.

Preceding Rae in death were her parents; husband, Melvin Bergstrom May 6, 1991; brothers, Harold and Alfred Bauman; and a son, Randall Bergstrom March 8, 2013.

Survivors include her son, Roger Bergstrom and wife Jill of Red Oak; grandchildren, Cale Bergstrom of Des Moines and Jenna Boehne and husband Greg of Waukee; twin sister, Ruth Gillespie of Villisca; sisters-in-law, Florence Anderson of Chicago and Carolyn Bauman of Centerville; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Stanton. Burial will be in the Mission Covenant Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel.  Memorials are suggested to the Evangelical Covenant Church.
