RAGBRAI through county Monday

The Montgomery County area will play a role in this year’s Des Moines Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI).

The ride begins Sunday, going from Glenwood to Shenandoah. It will pass through Malvern, Tabor and Randolph on the way, with a gravel loop through Imogene.

A “Mile of Silence” will be dedicated to the memory of those killed or injured while biking. That will occur on Noyes Avenue between Malvern and Tabor. Sunday’s route is 49.7 miles and has 2,614 feet of climb.

Monday, riders will depart from Shenandoah and head to Essex, where the community is planning a special veterans salute. 

From there, the riders will go on Highway 48 to Bethesda, then follow County Road M63 north, then County Road H46 east into Villisca. 

The ride goes east through Nodaway, where it turns north on its way to Corning, then to Creston for the overnight stop. None of the ride is on U.S. 34. Monday’s ride is 75.2 miles and has 3,994 feet of climb.

The ride concludes Saturday in Muscatine.
