Real estate icon dies

A real estate icon with a career covering six decades died last week in an Omaha hospital.

Charlie Walker, 82, died at the Creighton Medical Center in Omaha Thursday from complications of a stroke suffered a few weeks earlier. 

After starting his real estate career in 1969, Walker opened Charlie Walker Real Estate in 1979 and was still actively selling homes and businesses in southwest Iowa until his death.

Walker operated his real business in conjunction with his wife, Pauline, who served as the business’ bookkeeper. 

Walker married Pauline Jan. 22, 1956, in Red Oak.

After his marriage, Walker, then a farmer, moved to Red Oak to manage a new hog farm, before going to work at Union Carbide. 

Walker began his real estate career in 1969, working for Carder and Kurtenback. 

According to his obituary published on P. 2A, Walker was a long time member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, was active in Boy Scouts of America, was a member of the American Legion, the Red Oak Country Club, the Red Oak Elks Lodge, and the Montgomery County Board of Realtors.

A funeral for Walker is scheduled for Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Red Oak. The family will host visitation Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Nelson Boylan LeRette Funeral Chapel.
