ACCIDENTS
• On July 13, at about 6 a.m., Red Oak Police officers investigated a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Oak and 4th Streets. Michael Webb, 30, Red Oak, driving a 2014 Ford Fusion, was traveling west on Oak Street and approaching the intersection. Alexander Ross, 20, Red Oak, driving a 2000 Chevrolet Camaro owned by Ann Ross, Red Oak, was stopped at the stop sign on 4th Street and waiting to continue north. Ross did not see Webb’s vehicle approaching and entered the intersection, where the two vehicles collided. Damage to Webb’s vehicle was about $4,500, while damage to Ross’s vehicle was estimated at $3,000. Ross was cited for failure to obey stop sign and/or yield right of way.
• On July 13, at about 2:27 p.m., Red Oak Police officers investigated a two-vehicle accident in the area of Eastern Avenue and U.S. Highway 34. Eloise Brower, 95, Red Oak, driving a 2008 Chevrolet Equinox, was traveling south on Eastern Avenue and was stopped at the stop sign. The Brower vehicle then proceeded into the intersection, where it was struck by a 2002 Dodge Dakota driven by Gary Reeve, 74, New Market, which was traveling west. Brower was transported by Red Oak Rescue to Montgomery County Emergency Room and then taken by Lifenet 23 out of Clarinda to Mosaic Lifecare in St. Joseph, Mo. with serious injuries. Reeve and his wife, Linda, 71, were taken to the Montgomery County Emergency Room by Red Oak Rescue with unknown injuries. Each vehicle had about $7,500 in damage.
• On July 13, at about 2:33 p.m., Red Oak Police officers investigated a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Maple and 1st Streets. Melissa Rinabarger, 34, Red Oak, driving a 2000 Pontiac Montana, was traveling west on Maple Street and failed to yield right of way at the intersection, striking a 2004 Mercury Mountaineer driven by Felipe Ramirez, Jr., 20, Red Oak, which was traveling south on 1st Street. Damage to Rinabarger’s vehicle was about $800, while damage to Ramirez’s vehicle was estimated at $5,000. Rinabarger was issued a warning for failure to yield to the vehicle on the right and was cited for no insurance.
• On July 14, at about 8:11 p.m., Red Oak Police officers investigated a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Joy Street and Broadway. Brandon Strunk, 34, Red Oak, driving a 2007 Honda Civic, was traveling south on Broadway. Ryan Green, 17, Red Oak, driving a 2007 Chevrolet Impala, was traveling west on Joy Street. Green stated he stopped at the stop sign, was unable to see Strunk’s vehicle due to sun glare, and began to cross Broadway, when his vehicle collided with Strunk’s. Melissa Pedersen, Clarinda, a witness, told police she saw the accident in her side mirror and stated Green did not properly stop at the stop sign. Damage to the Strunk vehicle was estimated at $10,000 and it is considered a total loss. Damage to the Green vehicle was about $5,000. Strunk complained of ringing in his ear because the side air bag struck him. He refused transport. Green received a warning for running a stop sign.
