ACCIDENTS
• On Oct. 17, at about 6:53 p.m., Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies investigated an accident in the 1700 block of 270th Street. A 2011 Ford Escape driven by Trevor Benge, 31, Stanton, was traveling west on 270th Street when it entered the ditch. It continued west, struck and went over a field drive, struck and went over a residential drive, continued northwest into a yard and struck a tree. The vehicle then continued southwest, traveling up and over 270th Street and into the opposite ditch, where it continued west for about 50 yards before stopping. Damage to the vehicle was about $5,000. Benge was charged with OWI second offense, driving while suspended, and having no insurance. He is being held on $2,000 bond.
• On Oct. 19, at about 1:32 p.m., Red Oak Police officers investigated a two-vehicle accident in the Red Oak High School parking lot. Kyla Gass, 16, Red Oak, driving a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier owned by Scott Gass, was traveling west in the parking lot between two rows of parked cars. Lauren Thurman, 17, Red Oak, driving a 2007 Dodge Caliber owned by Kevin Hale, was traveling north on the west end of the same two rows. The two cars collided with each other. There were no injuries, and no citations were issued. Damage to the Gass vehicle was about $1,500, while damage to the Thurman vehicle was estimated at $2,000.
