Accident Reports

On Feb. 29, at about 10:30 a.m., the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office investigated an accident at the intersection of Hwy. 34 and Boxelder Ave., west of Red Oak. It was determined David Ficke, of Pleasant Dale, Neb., was driving a 2003 Peterbuilt and was attempting to make a left turn off of Hwy. 34 onto Boxelder. At the same time, Martha Morton, of Hopkins, Mo., was driving a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am westbound on Hwy. 34 and attempted to pass the tractor-trailer. As Ficke turned onto Boxelder, the trailer and the Grand Am made contact and both came to a rest within the intersection. There were no injuries and at the time of this report the accident was still under investigation.

On March 3, at 9:52 a.m., the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call. It was determined a 2004 Peterbuilt tractor pulling a salvage trailor, owned and operated by Cecil Earl McCuen, 72, of Villisca, was turning eastbound onto High St., in Villisca. A 2006 Jeep Liberty, owned and operated by Kathleen Goines, 48, of Villisca, was facing west at the stop sign at High St. and Hwy. 71. The turn was cut short by McCuen, causing the trailer to strike Goines vehicle, causing a property damage accident. Damage to Goines vehicle is estimated at $4,000. There were no injuries and no citations were issued.
