Incident Reports

Sometime between May 24-26, someone(s) cut the chain securing Jack Lavone Lasley's 2001 utility trailer and took both the trailer and the chain securing it. The trailer was parked in the 300 block of 3rd Ave., at the time of the incident. The trailer is 5x10 feet with a fold down tail gate in the rear, black in color, with H&H written on the side, bearing Iowa License #0726JY. The trailer is valued at $795.

On May 25, at 9:17 p.m., a 17-year-old female from Red Oak in possession of marijuana was issued a juvenile referral and booked at Montgomery County jail before being released to parents.

On May 25, at 9:05 p.m., the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office received a report of criminal trespass resulting in criminal mischief at 111 W. High St., in Villisca. The residents of the house stated a pickup occupied by two young males pulled in front of the residence and one of the males entered the yard, grabbed a “Stephens for Sheriff” sign, removed it from the yard and threw it. The subject then fled back to the truck and left the scene. The residents located the responsible individuals a short time later and informed them to stay off of his property and observed them leaving Villisca. The sign was not significantly damaged and the residents did not wish to file charges at the time of the report.

On May 26, at 4:07 p.m., the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office received report of a stolen wallet in the 100 block of W. 3rd St., in Villisca. Tamara Lynne Rinehart, 46, of Oskaloosa, reported she noticed her wallet missing on May 22, and has been unable to locate it. The estimated loss is $50.

On May 26, at 10:20 a.m., Philip Michael Eshelman, of Shenandoah, reported to police his car was parked at the corner of 3rd St., and E. Coolbaugh when an unknown individual(s) cut all four tires and jumped up and down on the top of the car. Estimated damages are $1,200. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Red Oak Police Department at 623-6500 or the Montgomery County Crimestoppers at (800) 432-1001.

On May 28, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office asked for public assistance in locating a 2000 Ford F150 extended cab pick up, brown and tan in color, with a silver tool box and an Iowa License #085ZEB. The owner of this vehicle has not been heard from since 9 p.m., Saturday, May 26, and may be suffering from health issues. If anyone sees the above vehicle please notify the local law enforcement or the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office at 623-5107.

On May 29, The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office took report of a stolen white and yellow 2012 GT2100 Cub Cadet lawn tractor and a black 1995 H&H Dovetail trailer with an Iowa License #3544HB from the Dickel Duit Outdoor Power of 2227 Hwy 48, south of Red Oak. The theft is reported to have occurred between May 26-28. The estimated loss is $4,000 for the Cub Cadet and $3,000 for the trailer.

On May 31, at 11:18 p.m., a 16-year-old female was booked at the Montgomery County Jail for possession of drug paraphernalia before being released to her sister.

On June 2, at 3:32 p.m., a 16-year-old male from Coin was issued a juvenile referral for a minor in possession of alcohol and booked at Montgomery County jail before being released to his parents.

 

Accident Reports

On May 25, at 2:27 p.m., officers were called to N. Broadway and W. Cherry St., where a 2004 Dodge Intrepid driven by Susan Joanne Gerdts, 62, of Red Oak, was sitting in the middle of the intersection. Darin Thomas Fisher, 45, of Red Oak, stated he noticed the traffic signal had turned yellow and he proceeded through the intersection in his 2001 Chrysler Sebring and struck the front side of Gerdt's car. Fisher was issued a citation for failure to obey a traffic signal.

On May 27, at 10:20 p.m., the Montgomery County Communications Center received a call of a collision with a deer in 150th St., between E and F Aves. It was determined a 2004 Dodge Stratus owned and operated by Bradey Melvin Telschow, 19, of Red Oak, was traveling eastbound on 150th St., about one half mile west of F Ave., when he was unable to avoid colliding with a deer and struck it with the front of his car. No injuries were reported at the time of the accident. Damage to the Stratus was estimated at $6,500.

On May 29, at 7:41 p.m., there was a hit and run accident involving a 1999 Chevrolet Lumina driven by Isaias Guerra, 19, of Red Oak, a parked 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle, and a parked 2001 Dodge Caravan as Guerra was backing his vehicle. Details were not given but Guerra was issued a citation for unsafe backing.

On June 1, at 12:46 p.m., officers were called to Hwy 34 and N. Eastern Ave., in Red Oak. Upon arrival, a 2000 Buick Regal driven by Trudy Kay Swenson, 41, of Villisca, was on the south shoulder of the highway about 150 feet east of the intersection, with damage to the left front. A 2002 Dodge Dakota driven by Carolyn Allen Wilhemina, 89, of Red Oak, was on the northwest corner of the intersection facing in the opposite direction (south) from what it was heading before the collision. After talking to both drivers it was determined Swenson was eastbound on Hwy. 34 while Wilhemina was northbound on N. Eastern Ave. Wilhemina stopped at the stop sign, but then pulled into the intersection in front of Swenson who struck the left side of Wilhemina's car near the left rear tire with the left front of her car. The tire broke off of Wilhemina's car and the tire was found 150 feet southeast of the intersection in the ditch. Swenson complained of herleft elbow hurting but did not seek treatment. Wilhemina was issued a citation for failing to yield from a stop sign. Both cars were towed by Bates Towing upon request.

On June 1, at 4:13 p.m., the Montgomery County Communications Center received a call of an accident at the intersection of 250th St., and Q Ave. It was determined Erin Nicole Johnson, 28, of Villisca, was driving a 2012 Dodge Durango owned by Lane Richard Johnson, 31, of Villisca, and turned north onto Q Ave., from 250th St., following another vehicle. Johnson stated the other driver created dust making it hard to see, when she got too close to the shoulder and the loose gravel pulled her vehicle into the east ditch causing it to rollover onto its top. Johnson refused medical treatment for herself or her two children, but they were all later transported to Clarinda Regional Hospital by private party for observation. The Johnsons were later contacted and no injuries were reported. The vehicle is a total loss.

On June 1, at 7 p.m., a 2000 Ford Taurus driven by Jasmine Marie Rigby, 18, of Red Oak, was westbound on Marty Dr., and failed to maintain control, striking a 2001 Char motor home trailer parked in the driveway of 1707 Eastern Ave.
