Accident Reports
On Sept. 6, at 12:50 p.m., officers were called to N. 8th St., and E. Grimes for a hit and run. A 1997 Ford F250 truck owned by Jeff Soe was legally parked on E. Grimes, on the south side, facing east, with damage to the left front quarter panel. Soon after speaking with Soe, Maureen Ann Espinosa, 69, of Red Oak, returned to the scene after realizing she had struck someone's vehicle. Espinosa owns a 1997 Buick LaSabre, which had damage to the ride side. Both vehicles sustained about $800 in damage and remained drivable. No citations were issued.
On Sept. 6, at 2:58 p.m., officers were called to 206 N. 8th St., but the accident was actually located in the 800 block of E. Grimes St. After speaking with the parties involved and investigating the scene, police determined a 2005 Mercury Mountaineer driven by Joan Marie Barr, 65, of Villisca, was backing north down the alley towards E. Grimes St., when it struck a 2006 Mercury Mountaineer legally parked just east of the alley on E. Grimes St. Barr stated she knew there was a vehicle parked there, which she was watching in her left side mirror, and a power pole to her right. Barr stated she could not see clearly due to gravel dust and struck the other Mountaineer. The accident caused an estimated $2,000 in damage to the 2006 Mountaineer and to the Barr vehicle. No citations were issued.
On Sept. 7, at 9:49 a.m., a 2002 Cadillac DeVille driven by Robin Dyann Sprague, 35, of Red Oak, was southbound on N. 8th St., in the 1200 block and began to slow to pull alongside the curb in front of 1207 N. 8th St. This was marked as a no parking zone. A 2007 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Margo Jane Elarton, 17, of Red Oak, and owned by Randall James Elarton, of Red Oak, was also southbound on N. 8th St., when items fell inside the passenger campartment and distracted her. When Elarton regained attention she noticed Sprague was slowing and took evasive action, however the right, front fender of Elarton’s car came into contact with the left, rear corner of the bumper of Sprague’s car. The accident is still under investigation.
