Red Oak boys golf wraps up season at sectional
STUART — The Red Oak boys golf season came to an end Friday at the 2A sectional golf meet hosted by West Central Valley.
The Tigers didn’t have a qualifier advance to the district meet.
As a team, they finished fourth with a score of 351.
Ryan Plambeck missed out on the top four by one stroke, shooting a 78.
Mitch Hilder had an 89 Nick Carlson shot a 91, John Johnson finished with a 93, Nick Leinen recorded a 94 and Nolan Black had a 96.
Panorama and Nodaway Valley were the qualifying teams at the sectional meet.
The district meet will be held Friday in Panora.
Red Oak vs. Harlan/Shenandoah
Last Tuesday, both Red Oak teams had their last regular season meet when they faced Harlan and Shenandoah. The boys team was home at the Red Oak Country Club, while the girls went to Shenandoah.
The boys finished third with a team score of 185. Harlan was first with 162, while Shenandoah took second with 169.
All the boys golfers were able to shoot below a 60 for the meet.
Carlson was the top golfer for the boys when he shot a 42. Leinen was next in line, finishing with a 45.
Plambeck was third on the team as he recorded a 48. Black was two shots back with a 50. Hilder finished with a 53, while Nelson shot a 57.
The girls didn’t record a team score as they had three compete on varsity for the meet. Harlan won the meet with a score of 222.
Ellen Fellers led the way for Red Oak when she shot a 56. Shelbie Perez was next in line as she recorded a 72. Reilly Black wrapped up the meet for the girls when she finished with an 85.
Hawkeye 10 meet
At the Hawkeye Ten meet last Monday, the Red Oak boys team finished ninth, while the girls placed 10th. Both meets were held at separate locations.
The Red Oak girls competed at Harlan as they recorded a team score of 717. The boys meanwhile had a team score of 398 as they competed at Creston.
Plambeck was the top scorer for the boys as he shot a 93. Hilder was the only other Tiger to shoot under a hundred as he finished with a 98.
Carlson shot a 102, while Leinen and Black had 105 and 106, respectively. Gabe Nelson was the final finisher for Red Oak, recording a 145.
For the girls, Fellers was the top golfer when she shot a 119. Sadie Uhlenberg had a 178, while Perez had a 198 and Black finished with a 222.
The girls competed in the varsity regionals Monday in Shenandoah. Results weren’t available as of press time.
