Red Oak eliminated in quarterfinals by Kuemper Catholic

The Red Oak volleyball season came to an end Wednesday afternoon when the Tigers lost in the 3A quarterfinals to Hawkeye 10 rival Kuemper Catholic, 3-1, at the US Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.

Kuemper Catholic won the first two games 25-17 and 27-25. Red Oak stayed alive with a game three win 25-21. Both teams battled back and forth in the fourth game, but Kuemper Catholic clinched the match with a 25-21 win.

Kate Walker had 12 kills to lead the Tigers, while Grace Blomstedt finished with nine. For Kuemper Catholic, Claire Ludwig finished with 19 kills, while Maria Dentlinger had 14.

This is the second meeting between the two teams this season. Red Oak first encountered Kuemper Catholic for the season opener. The Knights won the season opener on Sept. 5 3-1.

Kuemper Catholic advances to the semifinals where they will take on Mount Vernon.

Red Oak isn't the only Montgomery County team playing Wednesday. The Stanton Viqueens will take to the court at 4 p.m. when they play Gehlen Catholic.
