Red Oak falls short versus Shen

 RED OAK — The Red Oak Tigers baseball team was shutout in five innings last Tuesday at Legion Park, losing 12-0 to heated rival Shenandoah.

The Mustangs scored early thanks to three runs in the first inning. 

They added three each in the second and third, two in the fourth and one more in the fifth to ensure the win via the mercy rule.

Carlos Guerra and Eddie Perez had the only hits for the Tigers. 

Guerra was 1-for-3, while Perez went 1-for-2.

Creston 9, Red Oak 5

Red Oak had the lead, but lost it as Creston scored four runs in the fifth inning to take back the lead and get the win last Monday at Creston High School.

The Tigers scored five runs in the third inning as they took a 5-1 lead. Creston scored a run in the bottom half of the inning to make it 5-2.

The Panthers added a run in the fifth and sixth, following their five in the fourth, to get the win.

Jesse Taylor, Nathan Guffey and Andrew Palmuqist all recorded hits in the win. Taylor went 1-for-4 with a run scored. Both Guffey and Palmquist were 1-for-3 in the game with each scoring a run.

Colin Bruce and Brock Isaacson scored the other two runs.

Red Oak was scheduled to play Thursday evening against Kuemper Catholic at home, but it was rained out. No make-up date has been announced.

Red Oak was also scheduled to play Saturday at Clarinda Academy, but the game was postponed because of weather. No make-up date has been announced.

Red Oak was back in action Monday night when they hosted Glenwood for a varsity doubleheader. 

Results weren’t available as of press time. It will be another doubleheader for the varsity baseball team when they take on Denison-Schleswig. The action starts Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Legion Park.

The Tigers are home once more Friday for a JV/varsity doubleheader against Lewis Central. The doubleheader kicks off at 5:30 p.m. with the JV squad.
