Red Oak gets medals and gets first win of the season
RED OAK — The Red Oak girls’ golf team lost to Lewis Central Thursday in Hawkeye Ten golf action.
Lewis Central won the match, 235-276. Red Oak’s Julie Sunberg was the runner-up medalist as she shot a 57 to lead the team. Bianca Zerwas of Lewis Central was the top medalist, as she finished with a 55.
Ellen Fellers was three shots behind Sunberg as she recorded a 60 for the meet. Shelbie Perez had a 76 and Reilly Black finished with an 83.
Last Tuesday, Red Oak competed at the Fremont County Golf Course and won their first meet of the season against Sidney. Red Oak finished with a score of 275, while Sidney had 294.
Fellers was the medalist for the meet as she shot a 61. Sidney’s Logan Doty was runner-up and one shot behind Fellers.
Sunberg was third overall and second on the team, as she recorded a 64. Perez was third with a 74, while Bevin Griffin was two shots back with a 76. Black finished the meet with a 90.
On April 16, Red Oak lost to Glenwood, 246-277. Sunberg was the top medalist for the meet as she shot a 53. Maddie Sell of Glenwood shot a 57 to claim runner-up medal for the meet.
Fellers had a 61, while Perez had a 73 and Black a 90.
Tuesday, Red Oak will be on the road as they play Clarinda High School.
On Thursday, they'll have their last home meet for the next couple of weeks as Red Oak plays host to Atlantic and Shenandoah.
The next Red Oak home meet after that won't be until May 8, their last regular season meet, when they host Shenandoah and Harlan.
Both meets for this week will start at 4:30 p.m.
