Red Oak goes to Shenandoah and Creston
The Red Oak boys track team had a busy week with two away meets: in Shenandoah April 11 and Creston Friday night.
Head coach Sueann French said she was happy about the meet in Shenandoah and that it positioned the Tigers well for the second half of the season.
“It was a great meet,” she said. “We are improving our times and getting in better shape. We are looking for good things going into the back half of the season.”
In the 4x100 meter relay the team of Hayden VanMeter, Dylan Graber, Isaac Bower and Brock Isaacson finished sixth, while the 4x200 meter relay team of VanMeter, Graber, Rob Vial and Isaacson finished third.
In the 1,600 distance medley relay, the team of VanMeter, Isaacson, Vial, and Clay Selberg also finished third.
In the shuttle hurdle relay, the team of Cam VanMeter, Bower, Selberg, and Fransisco Rohner finished eighth.
As for the future of the Red Oak program, many junior varsity athletes were at the meet as well.
Oscar Vega had a solid day, winning the 200 meter dash and taking third in the 100 meter dash.
In the 400 meter dash, Ethan Stewart took sixth while James Kelly took seventh. In the 800 meter run, Stewart was eighth while Nick Turnball finished ninth.
In the 1,600 meter run, Jake Sellers took eighth.
In the 4x100 meter relay Rohner pulled double duty as he raced for the J.V. as well. He and his teammates Dillon Burns, Vega and Hunter Woods finished third in the 4x100 meter relay and the team of Rohner, Bower, Vega and Woods took second in the 4x200 meter relay.
Red Oak traveled to Creston for a meet that included some important Hawkeye-10 teams that are on Red Oak’s radar.
Atlantic, Clarinda, Earlham, Harlan, Mt. Ayr, Nishnabotna, North Polk and Shenandoah were all in attendance.
French said the team that went to Creston was smaller than it would usually be because some members of the team needed to spend time with their families.
Today Red Oak will have their invitational Tuesday as they invite Clarinda, Riverside, Shenandoah and Tri-Center to Red Oak.
