Red Oak High School locked down

RED OAK — Red Oak High School was on lockdown Monday after an anonymous threat was found implying someone had a weapon and might hurt themself and others. No weapons were found.

Superintendent Terry Schmidt said the note was found on a school printer Monday morning after classes began. While he wouldn’t comment on the specifics of the note, he did say a person, who Schmidt said he thinks might be a student, was upset with someone else and threatened to hurt both parties with some type of weapon.

Officers from the Red Oak Police and Montgomery County Sheriff’s department searched the premises, including all lockers, and remained on campus throughout the day searching students for weapons as they left and re-entered the building. Students were held in their classrooms while law enforcement conducted the search.

Schmidt said the administration is working to identify who wrote the note by tracing it back to the individual computer that sent it to one of the available printing stations within the school.

Should a person be identified, he said the district will pursue a criminal investigation since any type of threat is illegal. 

“We are just taking all precautions possible,” Schmidt said. “Threats of any nature are not taken lightly.”

Schmidt added this is the first threat involving multiple parties the school has received in many years.
