Red Oak loses both games at Atlantic Tournament Saturday

ATLANTIC — The Red Oak baseball team lost both of their games at the Atlantic Tournament Saturday.

Red Oak lost to Atlantic, 11-1 and to Coon Rapids-Bayard 13-3.

The game against Atlantic ended after six innings, when the Trojans scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Red Oak stayed close early against Atlantic, trailing 3-1 after three innings. However, Atlantic scored eight runs in the last three innings to win by the 10-run rule.

Nathan Guffey scored the lone run of the game  as he was 1-for-3 at the plate.

Hayden Berry was the leading hitter for Red Oak as he went 2-for-3 with a stolen base. Eddie Perez had the other hit in the game.

The game against Coon Rapids-Bayard also ended in the sixth inning.
The key difference was the fifth inning when Coon Rapids-Bayard scored eight runs.

Nick Leinen hit his first home run of the season, which was a two-run shot.

Tanner Johnson was the top hitter at the plate as he went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

Last Thursday, Red Oak was swept in a doubleheader at home to the 4A Lewis Central Titans.

Red Oak lost game one 11-0 and game two 20-0. In each game, Red Oak was held to one hit against the Titans.

Last Wednesday, Red Oak headed up to Council Bluffs to play St. Albert, losing 10-0, which ended after six innings.

Red Oak had additional home games early last week. Last Tuesday, they lost to Shenandoah 10-0 and June 4, they lost to Glenwood 19-0.

The game against Shenandoah ended after five innings. The Mustangs were able to jump out to a 6-0 lead after two innings and held on from there, scoring two runs each in the fourth and fifth inning.

Red Oak was held to one hit during the game. Johnson had the lone hit for the Tigers as he was 1-for-2. Johnson pitched all five innings for Red Oak, allowing 10 runs, but only two of them earned, while striking out four batters.

For Glenwood, the Rams had entered the fifth inning with a 7-0 lead when they added an additional 12 runs.

Red Oak had two hits in the game, both of them coming from Leinen, who was 2-for-3 with a triple.

The Tigers have lost 14 straight games. Their last win was May 22 against Underwood.

They played Monday night against Creston, but results weren’t available as of press time.

Red Oak will remain on the road for the rest of the week as they play Atlantic Thursday and Corning Saturday.
