Red Oak loses tennis opener to Glenwood

GLENWOOD — The Red Oak boys' tennis team opened the 2012 season with a loss on the road against the Glenwood Rams, 5-4, on April 2 at Glenwood High School.

Pete Walker and Craig White both picked up the singles matches wins for Red Oak. Walker, Red Oak's top seed, defeated Grant Stivers, 10-0. White defeated Garrett Hembry, 11-9, in the battle of the three seeds.

Jordan Nelson and Austin Streicher both went to tiebreakers in their matches, but both lost.

Nelson lost to Scott King and Streicher lost to Joe Gunkelman.
Geoff Sellers lost to Jake Rhodes 10-7, while Dixon Nelson lost to Ryan Hansen, 10-2.

Red Oak won two of their three doubles matches against Glenwood. White and Jordan Nelson defeated Stivers and Hembry 10-8, while Walker and Streicher defaetd King and Rhodes, 10-5.

Dixon Nelson and Sellers had the doubles loss, as they fell to Hansen and Gunkelman, 10-8.

Red Oak is 0-1 to start the season. The Tigers were in action Monday as they played Kuemper Catholic. Results weren't available as of press time.

Red Oak will have two home meets during the week. Tuesday, they'll play host to Audubon and Thursday they face Corning. Both home meets will start at 4:30 p.m.
